brutalist

During my time as a resident in Berlin, I seized the opportunity to conduct a compelling case study on photography, delving into the fascinating world of Brutalist architecture that dots the city's landscape. Through this project, I was able to capture the intricate details and unique beauty of these structures, while also gaining valuable insights into the historical and cultural significance they hold.

Brutalism is a modernist architectural style that emerged in the mid-20th century, characterized by raw, exposed concrete and an emphasis on function over form. Berlin has a rich history of brutalist architecture, which can be traced back to the post-World War II era when the city was divided into East and West.

While many brutalist buildings in Berlin fell out of favor in the late 20th century and were at risk of demolition, there has been a growing appreciation for the style in recent years. Many of these buildings have been restored and repurposed, serving as a reminder of the city's complex architectural history
